How to Transport Water in Sandustry

Move existing Water between locations with Pumps, Pipes, and Liquid Vents, then fix blocked intake areas and prevent unwanted liquids from sharing the network.

How Water Transport Works

To transport Water in Sandustry, use a Pump with Pipes and Liquid Vents. The Pump collects liquid, the connected Pipes carry it through the network, and a Liquid Vent deposits it at the other end.

The Pump can transport Water and other non-Lava liquids. Lava is the documented exception, so this system should not be treated as a general solution for every liquid in the game.

Pump, Pipe and Liquid Vent Setup

Build the route around three jobs: collect Water at the source, connect the source to the destination, and deposit the Water at the destination.

Place the Pump at the Water Source

Position the Pump so liquid reaches its intake. The Pump occupies a 4×4 area, but the official Pump page identifies the central 2×2 area as the intake. Solid pixels inside that intake area can stop the Pump from transporting liquid.

Connect the Pipe Network

Connect the Pump to Pipes that lead toward the destination. Liquids connected to the same network can mix, so keep unrelated liquid sources off the Water network when you need predictable output.

Place a Liquid Vent at the Destination

Connect a Liquid Vent at the destination. The Pump collects the liquid and the Liquid Vent deposits it at the other end of the Pipe network. If multiple liquid types share that network, connected Liquid Vents may output the connected liquids.

Common Problems

The Pump Is Not Collecting Water

Inspect the Pump's central intake area. Solid pixels blocking that area can stop liquid transport, so clear the obstruction and make sure Water reaches the intake.

Also check that the Pump, Pipes, and Liquid Vent form one connected route. This guide does not assign an undocumented throughput, distance limit, or power requirement to diagnose the network.

The Wrong Liquid Reaches the Vent

Check every liquid connected to the Pipe network. Connected liquid types can mix, and connected Liquid Vents may output those liquids. Separate the Water route from other liquid sources if the destination should receive only Water.

Frequently Asked Questions

What transports Water in Sandustry?

A Pump works with Pipes and Liquid Vents to transport Water. The Pump collects it and the Liquid Vent deposits it at the other end.

Can a Pump transport liquids other than Water?

Yes. The official Pump page says it can transport non-Lava liquids. Lava is not supported by this system.

Why has my Pump stopped moving Water?

Solid pixels in the Pump's central intake area can stop transport. Check the intake first, then inspect the connections between the Pump, Pipes, and Liquid Vent.

Can liquids mix in one Pipe network?

Yes. Liquid types connected to the same network can mix, and connected Liquid Vents may output the connected liquids.
